About the event
Long before we speak, people already respond to us.
Every day, we try to influence colleagues, teams, students, stakeholders, and organisations. We invest heavily in developing knowledge, expertise, and convincing arguments. Yet influence is shaped by more than what we know or what we say.
Through posture, movement, eye contact, voice, rhythm, and the space we claim - or surrender - we continuously shape how others perceive us and how much influence we have.
In theatre, this is called status: the subtle and constantly shifting dynamics through which people establish, negotiate, challenge, and share influence. It is a living interactional process that unfolds in every meeting, classroom, workshop, and conversation.
Why do some ideas gain traction while others are overlooked? Why do some people command attention without raising their voice? Why do certain groups repeatedly struggle to be heard despite their expertise? And how do gendered expectations shape these dynamics?
